U.S. Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) filed a resolution on May 17 to expel U.S. Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) from the U.S. House of Representatives.

"Schiff lied to the American people," Luna said on Twitter this week. "He used his position on House Intel to push a lie that cost American taxpayers millions of dollars. He is a dishonor to the House of Representatives."

Luna's resolution, H. Res. 412,  takes up less than a page and calls for the expulsion pursuant to Article I, Section 5, Clause 2 of the Constitution, which says, “Each House may determine the Rules of its Proceedings, punish its Members for disorderly Behaviour, and, with the Concurrence of two thirds, expel a Member.”

Luna filed the motion days after release of the Durham Report, the catalyst for her seeking the explusion, a Washington Post opinion piece reported. The Durham Report slammed the FBI and their investigation into former President Donald Trump’s supposed collusion with Russia. The report, which had several years of hype leading up to it, showed multiple failings on the side of the FBI and did nothing to condemn Trump as many hoped it would.

Schiff is the former chair of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, and Luna has cited his use of this position as an abuse of power and a betrayal of trust with the American people. Schiff’s bio also stated that he “led the House impeachment inquiry and served as the Lead Impeachment Manager during the Senate impeachment trial of President Donald J. Trump. He also served a member of the January 6th Select Committee.”

Schiff responded to the filing on his personal Twitter page.

“A MAGA Republican has filed a motion to expel me from Congress,” he tweeted. “When this chapter is written, it will record: When Republicans lacked the courage to stand up to the most unethical president in history, they consoled themselves by attacking those who did. I’m not backing down.” He also added a link to his campaign donation site encouraging people to stand with him.
