Fwc Fish And Wildlife Research Institute issued the following announcement on Dec. 16.
Feel Like You’re Being Watched?
Did you know that bay scallops (Argopecten irradians) have rows of up to 100 tiny, blue eyes that line the outer rims of their shell? Scallops use this expansive network of tiny eyes to detect movement and serve as a warning system against potential dangers. The eyes work like mirrors that reflect light similar to a telescope and produce a clearer picture with a wide view that allows them to see peripheral and central pictures at the same time.
