St. Petersburg Police Department issued the following announcement on Feb. 22.

In Tribute to a Fallen Brother!

Members of the St. Petersburg Police Department attended the memorial service for fallen Pembroke Pines Police Officer Charles “Charlie” Herring on Monday, Feb. 20.

They were among a throng of law enforcement officers from throughout the state to gather, along with Officer Herring’s family and friends, for the service at the Charles F. Dodge City Center in Pembroke Pines.

While on duty, Officer Herring was involved in a tragic accident while riding his police motorcycle.  A piece of debris fell from a tree, striking Officer Herring and causing him to fall from his motorcycle. Officer Herring succumbed to his injuries despite all lifesaving efforts.

We send our deepest regards to the Herring family and mourn with them. We honor Officer Herring’s dedication and service to his community.

Rest In Peace, Sir
