Pinellas Community Church issued the following announcement on Jan. 15.
It was chilly outside today, but our hearts are warm and full from today’s Gathering as we continued in our series Prayer and Fasting.
We know that fasting for spiritual purposes is not widely practiced in our modern culture. But fasting is a constant companion to prayer throughout scripture. Those that we consider the “heroes” of the faith fasted: Moses fasted before he received the Ten Commandments. David’s Psalms are full of references to fasting. Nehemiah fasted before seeking permission to rebuild the wall in Jerusalem. Daniel fasted before he was put in the lion’s den Esther fasted before she put her life on the line for a nation. Paul fasted before his first missionary journey to spread the Gospel. And there are many more examples where we see an individual or even a nation called to Fast and Pray – particularly in times of great need.
Fasting detaches us from the world. Prayer-attaches us to God.
The added element of Fasting with prayer clears away the distractions and allows us to more clearly hear the word of God. Jeremiah 33: 3 says, “Ask me and I will tell you remarkable secrets you do not know about things to come.”
Fasting is not a manipulative tool that gives us the results WE want. what it does is bring us into a deeper more intimate relationship with God.
Reach out to God in prayer - pray for protection, for your family, for a deeper walk, for healing, guidance, forgiveness. Whatever God is speaking into your heart today - or maybe you just need to listen and hear what He is saying to you. Make room. Be open to whatever God wants to say or do in you today....#prayer #fasting #saintpetersburg #church #sundaymessage
