St. Petersburg Police Department issued the following announcement on Oct. 29.

St. Petersburg Police Officers Volunteer to Help Our Neighbors Hit by Hurricane Ian

Today Mayor Ken Welch and Chief Anthony Holloway met with officers deploying to Sanibel Island to help the local police.

A total of 24 St. Pete PD officers will head south, along with one of the boats from our Marine Unit.

They’ll be relieving another volunteer police agency and take over the mission for the next two weeks.

The area is still struggling to restore power and water to most of the community hit hard by the Hurricane.
