ST. PETERSBURG POLICE DEPARTMENT: Update: Body of missing woman found

St. Petersburg Police Department issued the following announcement on Jun. 13.

Update:  Body of missing woman found

A missing St. Petersburg woman has been found but unfortunately we learned she has died.

The body of 70-year-old Arlete Desousa was discovered in Boca Ciega Bay north of the Pinellas Bayway today, Monday, June 13, 2022. 

Shortly after 10 a.m. Monday a passerby spotted a body in the water and dialed 911. A rescue team responded and recovered the body. 

Based on a preliminary investigation, there are no signs of foul play.   The body has been turned over to the Pinellas County Medical Examiner's Office to determine the cause of death.

Arlete Desousa was reported missing late Sunday, hours after she was last in contact with a relative. Police investigators launched a search to find her due to concerns about her visual impairment.

Arlete Desousa's death is an active investigation. Additional information will be released when it becomes available.

Missing Elderly Adult

Have you seen 70-year-old Arlete Desousa?

She left her home near the Pinellas Bayway Sunday and was later reported missing by relatives. Arlete Desousa is visually impaired and is without her purse or cell phone. Investigators are requesting  the public's help to find her.

Arlete Desousa is 5-foot-3; 110 pounds; has shoulder length, gray hair; and wears glasses. She was last seen wearing a maroon color floral top, a purple sweater, and white pants.
