St. Petersburg Police Department issued the following announcement on Jun. 05.
Congratulations to Officer George Lofton on his retirement!
Hometown hero Officer Lofton, a St. Pete High graduate and proud Green Devils fanatic, was sworn in as a St. Petersburg Police Officer on November 17, 1990.
His 32 year career has been jam packed with excellent police work and nobility.
In 2003, as a Crimes Against Children Detective, Officer Lofton worked tirelessly for two days to find an abducted child. His investigation led him to a Tampa bus stop where the suspect was waiting to flee with the child.
Being a Field Training Officer of the Year and nominated twice for Officer of the Year, he was known for his determination, patience, and professionalism.
He was also an Economic Crimes Detective, a Downtown Deployment Officer, a SERT grenadier, and a hostage negotiator.
Officer Lofton’s passion for having the backs of his fellow officers inspired him to become involved in the Sun Coast Police Benevolent Association. As President, he will be forever remembered and respected for his outspoken care and concern for the rank and file.
Thank you, George, for your leadership and your many years of dedicated and selfless service to the citizens of St. Petersburg, and to your fellow officers.
Well done, sir!
Gooooo Devils!
