Fwc Fish And Wildlife Research Institute issued the following announcement on Dec. 17.
Manatee release!
Yesterday we joined up with our partners at ZooTampa at Lowry Park to release Baylo, a successfully rehabilitated manatee, at the TECO Manatee Viewing Center. Our manatee response team originally rescued the small, subadult animal in October after it was found suffering from neurological signs due to red tide exposure. Our manatee biologists work diligently to respond to reports of distressed manatees and our partners within the Manatee Rescue & Rehabilitation Partnership are critical to helping those manatees in need. Thank you to our staff and partners for this successful rescue, rehabilitation and release!
Have you seen a sick, injured, or dead manatee? Call the FWC’s Wildlife Alert hotline 888-404-3922.
Manatee conservation is a high priority for the FWC, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and our many partners including ZooTampa. Learn more about the unified response to an Unusual Mortality Event happening along Florida’s East Coast: https://myfwc.com/.../manatee/rescue-mortality-response/ume/.
