City of St. Petersburg issued the following announcement on July 31
Healthy St. Pete to shine a light on health in the Sunshine City with a Glow in the Park themed virtual 5K
St. Petersburg, FL (July 31, 2020) – Healthy St. Pete, an initiative of the City of St. Petersburg and a division of the St. Petersburg Parks and Recreation Department, is hosting the 4th Annual Fit City 5K, but this year’s Glow in the Park themed event will take place virtually throughout the week of Saturday, October 4, to Sunday, October 10.
“This year has been a challenge for everyone as many of our traditions and routines have disrupted in the interest of public health. I’m excited that we are able to adapt this year’s race in a way that keeps the Fit City 5k alive and keeps us virtually connected,” said Deputy Mayor Kanika Tomalin, City Administrator. “We may be forced to separate more than usual this year but in St. Pete we’re never apart. I hope you’ll join us!”
The 5K registration includes a free T-shirt, race bib, medal, and glow kit if registered by September 21. Registration is $20 from August 1-8 until midnight and $25 from August 9 – October 10. Racers can register at HealthyStPeteFL.com .
Proceeds will support the Healthy Kids virtual programming, which encourages free virtual fitness and fun activities during out-of-school time. The proceeds received from Fit City race registration will be used to provide Play Packs for children throughout the St. Petersburg community. The packs will include interactive sports equipment, at-home social and emotional curriculum, and ideas for engagement at home.
Scholarships are available for race registration. Contact Christie Bruner, Healthy St. Pete Community Engagement Supervisor, at christie.bruner@stpete.org for details.
