CITY OF CLEARWATER: Clearwater Aging Well Center Upcoming Virtual Programs

City of Clearwater issued the following announcement on July 16

The Aging Well Center at the Long Center is hosting a variety of upcoming free virtual programs throughout the month of July. Some of the programs will be found on the Clearwater Parks and Recreation Department’s Facebook page (facebook.com/clearwaterparksandrec) and the city of Clearwater’s YouTube channel (YouTube.com/MyClearwater), and some programs will be held on the ZOOM platform.

Here are some upcoming programs:­

Genealogy Series - Lesson One

  • Premiering on Facebook and YouTube Tuesday, July 21, 1 p.m.
  • This five-part series is designed for beginners interested in learning how to start researching their family history.
  • Each episode will premiere on the third Tuesday of the month and will teach participants basic steps to researching genealogy. To register, call (727) 724-3070.
Florida Land Boom via ZOOM

  • Thursday, July 23, 2 to 3 p.m.
  • Shelley Blood from the Tampa Bay History Center will present about the Florida Land Boom in the 1920s. It was arguably the largest and most disastrous in the nation. It shifted Florida’s population centers, was fueled by speculation and investment, melted down three years before the depression and left abandoned settlements and graveyards of dreams. Learn why it happened. Free.

Pictionary via ZOOM

  • Friday, July 24, 2 to 3 p.m.
  • Join in on the fun with video Pictionary. Each participant will get a turn to draw with their mouse. Participants will be divided into teams, and they will guess what their team is drawing. Free.

Virtual Diabetes Education Empowerment Program (DEEP) 

  • Mondays, July 27 through Aug. 31, 2 to 4 p.m.
  • The National American Association of Diabetes Educators is presenting this six-week virtual course to empower people to take charge of their diabetes by avoiding disease complications and improving self-management skills. The class will be held over the ZOOM platform. Free.

How to Use Facebook

  • Premiering Wednesday, July 29, 1 p.m.
  • In this video with Michael Marshall, participants will explore creating an album, deciding whether to unfollow, unfriend or block; finding live video; messaging; posting; and deactivating or deleting your Facebook account. To register, call (727) 724-3070.
Personal Legacy Writing Workshop via ZOOM

  • Thursday, July 30, 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
  • Most of us find the idea of leaving a legacy behind intriguing. A personal legacy document is created intentionally to last beyond your lifetime for the purpose of communicating feelings, values, wisdom, stories and wishes. Learn more about the simple, free tools available to help create this gift for your loved ones. Materials are provided upon registration.
