CITY OF CLEARWATER: Clearwater Gas System Will Extend Natural Gas to New, Single-family Homes

Natural gas

City of Clearwater issued the following announcement on Jan. 27

Clearwater Gas System, in partnership with Lennar Homes, will be extending natural gas service to more than 660 single-family homes in Pasco County over the next few years. The gas service partnership will include the installation of energy-efficient gas water heaters, gas ranges and gas dryers in each home.

The developing land project, also known as Bryant Square, is located at the corner of Little Road and State Road 54 with close proximity to the Gulf Coast’s beautiful beaches and luxury shopping at Tampa Premium Outlets. The single-family homes within Bryant Square will feature spacious floor plans and open-concept designs.

At current rates, natural gas is approximately 65 percent cheaper to operate compared to electricity. The direct use of natural gas achieves 92 percent efficiency, far better than any other energy source, and it cuts carbon emissions nearly in half. A recent American Gas Association study revealed the average total savings per year for households that use natural gas for water heating, cooking and clothes drying equals to $874 compared to homes using electricity for typical household appliances.

Clearwater Gas System is the fourth largest municipal gas system in Florida and ranks 34th out of nearly 1,000 public gas systems in the United States. Clearwater Gas System provides natural and propane gas service to approximately 27,000 residential and commercial customers in a 330 square mile service territory, and includes 20 municipalities as well as unincorporated areas of Pinellas, Pasco and parts of Hillsborough counties.
