Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Florida’s 13th district, has voiced her opinion on the conviction of Tory Lanez through a series of tweets dated May 20, 2025. Luna’s comments focus on recent legislative changes and perceived injustices within Lanez’s trial.
In her first tweet, Luna states that “Under California’s Racial Justice Act and recent legislation limiting the use of rap lyrics and character evidence, Tory Lanez deserves a full review. His conviction was built on outdated and unconstitutional grounds.” This statement suggests that the legal framework under which Lanez was convicted may no longer be applicable due to new laws.
Continuing her critique, Luna highlights several issues she perceives with the trial process: “Tory Lanez’s trial included: – Prosecutorial misconduct – Exclusion of mitigating factors – Use of protected speech (rap lyrics, tattoos) as evidence – Witness contradictions – Immunity deals with unclear motives This is not how justice is supposed to work.” The tweet underscores concerns about procedural fairness and the integrity of evidence used during the trial.
In a further elaboration on witness testimony, Luna points out inconsistencies: “Key witnesses changed their stories or contradicted themselves. One admitted in court she lied in a DA interview. Another gave a sworn statement that Harris admitted to firing the gun. This case deserves fresh eyes and full transparency.” These remarks emphasize her call for reevaluation based on alleged discrepancies in witness accounts.
Anna Paulina Luna has served in Congress since 2023 after replacing Charlie Crist. She was born in Santa Ana, California, holds a BS from the University of West Florida, and resides in St. Petersburg.
