On March 14, 2025, Rep. Luna introduced the SHRED Act aimed at increasing criminal penalties for offenses related to government documents. She stated: “BREAKING: Today, I introduced the SHRED Act, which would significantly increase criminal penalties for hiding, damaging, or destroying government files.” She highlighted that the current maximum sentence of three years for such offenses is inadequate.
